“My tastes are simple: I am easily satisfied with the best.” – Winston Churchill
It’s safe to say Mr. Churchill’s words struck a cord with Dorothée (when asked a favorite inspirational quote the above was her answer). Her designs are some of the best in Paris right now. Not to mention, her design éclat has already reached further locales like Ibiza, London andNew York City.
What initially drew me to Dorothée Meilichzon a couple years ago was not experiencing her creations, although each was more intriguing and satisfying than the one prior. Instead it was her entrepreneurial pith and her willingness to take risks. Risks not only in her design aesthetic but also in herself.
Much like her designs, Dorothée Meilichzon is daring, youthful, and bold. At the age of 27 she founded her Paris-based design agency, Chzon. Just six years later Chzon has outfitted dozens of restaurants, bars and shops, as well as four (soon to be six!) hotels.
Dorothée has managed to create spaces that speak volumes that whisper, never shout. They’re full of color, pattern, texture, contrast, movement and depth. Her latest project, Hotel Panache, sister property to Hotel Paradis, will open in Paris’ 9th arrondissement in January. If Hotel Bachaumont or the Grand Pigalle are any indication, this next hotel will likely transform the destination and inject new energy and visitors, Parisians and travelers alike.
Next up for Dorothée? Rejoining with her old friends at Experimental Group to open a hotel in London at the end of next year. Following that they’ll be opening another hotel right in their own backyard in Paris in 2017. Two exciting projects from two teams of exceptionally talented creatives.
It goes without saying: Dorothée won’t be satisfied until she achieves her best.
